With a preface by James Martin, SJ. A specially-priced two-in-one omnibus gift edition of Henri Nouwen's bestselling The Return of the Prodigal Son and it's companion and prequel Home Tonight.
In seizing the inspiration that came to him through Rembrandt's depiction of the powerful Gospel story "The Return of the Prodigal Son," Henri Nouwen probes several movements of the parable: the younger son's return, the father's restoration of sonship, the elder son's vengefulness, and the father's compassion. In his reflection on Rembrandt in light of his own life's journey, the author evokes a powerful drama of the parable in a rich, capativating way that is sure to reverberate in the hearts of readers. The themes of homecoming, affirmation, and reconciliation will be newly discovered by all who have known loneliness, dejection, jealousy, or anger. Coupled with the lectures that inspired the book and originally collected in Home Tonight, this special 2-in-1 omnibus will be the definitive edition of the spiritual classic.
Review of The Return Of The Prodigal Son (Anniversary Edition)
The Return Of The Prodigal Son (Anniversary Edition), A Special Two in One Volume including Home Tonight by Henri J.M. Nouwen is a heartfelt, soul searching account of Father Nouwen’s journey to encounter a loving and merciful God. His journey begins in 1983 in France where he decides to spend a few months at L’Arche, a community and home to people with mental disabilities. While visiting a friend there he encounters a poster of Rembrandt’s Prodigal Son. Father Nouwen becomes transfixed by the painting and thus begins a personal journey of self-discovery. Struggling to uncover if he’s the prodigal son, jealous brother or merciful father, he opens himself up intellectually and emotionally to the reader and invites us in for our own transformation. Beautiful and poignant but always with brutal honesty, Henri Nouwen reveals his recognition of himself in the prodigal son and the jealous brother, but understands he is ultimately called to be the loving and merciful father.
I loved The Return Of The Prodigal Son (Anniversary Edition). Henri Nouwen writes with such clarity and honesty bearing his thoughts, feelings and soul to the reader. This book is meant to be read slowly and thoughtfully calling the reader to adsorb Father Nouwen’s insights into the human psyche and soul. There were times where I read a few paragraphs and closed my kindle and just sat and absorbed the meaning of his words and how they might impact my life. He made me see how we all play many parts (forgiving father, wayward son and jealous brother) many times in our own personal lives. This book made me think and rethink about my own personal relationship with a loving and merciful God. Most of all his book caused me to consider what steps I can take to transform myself into a kinder, loving merciful child of God.
The Return Of The Prodigal Son (Anniversary Edition), A Special Two in One Volume including Home Tonight is a beautiful and thought provoking journey of self-discovery by Henri J.M. Nouwen. This sincere and heartfelt book can assist and encourage self-reflection and transformation for all of us into a compassionate, loving and merciful father too.

A remote summer camp becomes a lurid crime scene when the bodies of two teenagers are found in a bloody, real-life rendering of a classic Grimm’s fairy tale. Trapped in the wilderness, the remaining counsellors must follow a trail of dark children’s fables in order to outwit a psychopath and save the dwindling survivors before falling prey to their own gruesome endings.
Drawing on the grisly, uncensored details of history’s most famous fairy tales, Grimm Woods is a heart-pounding thriller about a deranged killer who uses traditional children’s stories as tropes in elaborate murders. Set against the backdrop of modern-day Michigan, it’s a journey through the mind of a dangerous zealot and a shocking glimpse into the bedtime stories you thought you knew.
